How much do custom blinds, shades, and shutters cost in Clearwater?

Custom window treatments typically range from under $100 to over $1,000 per window. The price depends on the product, window size, material, operating system, motorization, and number of windows, so an exact quote requires measuring the actual windows. That's why Made in the Shade Clearwater includes a free in-home consultation — we measure every window, show samples in your home's real Gulf Coast light, and tailor the quote to your actual project.

What window treatments hold up best in Clearwater's Gulf Coast humidity and salt air?

Moisture-resistant composite (faux wood) shutters and blinds are the best choice for Clearwater. Unlike real wood, they won't warp, crack, or mildew in Gulf Coast humidity and salt air, and they're easy to clean. For heat and glare, solar shades block the intense Florida sun while preserving your view. Many Clearwater and beach-community homeowners combine composite shutters in humid and lanai-adjacent rooms with solar or cellular shades in living areas.

Are you locally owned?

Yes. Made in the Shade Clearwater is a local, family-owned window treatment company owned and operated by Scott and Larry, who personally handle the consultation, measuring, and installation. You work directly with the owners, not a call center or a big-box store. They're proud to serve Clearwater, Clearwater Beach, and the surrounding Pinellas County beach communities.

Do solar shades really lower energy bills in Florida?

Yes. Solar shades block the sun's heat and up to 99% of UV before it enters, easing the load on your AC through Florida's long cooling season. Because Clearwater runs the AC nearly year-round, that heat rejection can meaningfully lower your Duke Energy bill. They also protect floors, furniture, and artwork from the intense Florida sun while preserving your Gulf or waterfront view.

What areas do you serve?

Made in the Shade Clearwater serves Clearwater, Clearwater Beach, Largo, Belleair, Belleair Bluffs, Belleair Beach, Belleair Shores, Indian Rocks Beach, Indian Shores, Seminole, Redington Shores, Redington Beach, Madeira Beach, and surrounding areas. The mobile showroom comes to your home anywhere in the service area. Call (727) 755-6786 to confirm we cover your neighborhood — we'll bring the showroom to you.

The Unfinished-Room Problem — and How Drapery Solves It

The Problem: A coastal room can feel hard and unfinished with only blinds or shades on the windows, and large Gulf-view and picture windows can feel bare and echoey. Hard treatments alone rarely deliver the softness, warmth, and layered light control a beautiful Clearwater home deserves — especially against the bright afternoon sun.

The Solution: Custom drapery solves both the look and the function. Layering drapes over your shades adds depth, sound dampening, and an extra layer of control over the bright Florida sun, while giving the room a finished, coastal-elegant look. Whether framing the large windows of a beach great room or softening a lanai-facing living room, our drapes are tailored to your exact windows from thousands of premium fabrics — with motorized tracks for large windows and lanai sliders.

Frequently Asked Questions About Custom Drapery in Clearwater

Does drapery help with the bright Florida sun?

Yes. Lined and light-filtering drapery softens harsh Florida sunlight and cuts glare, while blackout linings keep bedrooms dark and cool. Layered over shades or blinds, drapery adds depth, sound dampening, and extra light control.

Can I layer drapery over blinds or shades?

Absolutely — it’s one of our most-requested looks. Many Clearwater homeowners layer room-darkening drapery over solar or blackout shades for better sleep and a finished, designer feel.

Scott and Larry help you coordinate fabrics and hardware during your free consultation.

Can drapery be motorized?

Yes. Motorized drapery tracks let you open and close large or hard-to-reach panels by remote, app, or voice, and schedule them to manage the afternoon sun — popular in Clearwater’s great-room and lanai-slider homes.
